A group of Scarsdale parents has called a Bat Mitzvah chaperone “out of control and out of line” after audio was recorded of him screaming at several 12- and 13-year-old boys Saturday night.

The chaperone was the brother of the Bat Mitzvah hosts, escorting the boys back to a suburban high school from the party in Manhattan, according to Scarsdale 10583. He was reportedly provoked when a piece of candy was thrown toward the front of the bus.

“Who did it? Do it again, you f*ck, and you’re f*cked! This driver will kill you! He will kill you,” the man is heard saying. “One more time, you will die, you will bleed out of your f*cking nose! That’s right, I’m spitting in your f*cking eye! Ever do that again and you will die, got it? Death! You f*ck! You spoiled f*ck!”

Parents who picked their children up that night claimed the chaperone “appeared to be drunk,” but the parents of the young woman celebrating her Bat Mitzvah weren’t exactly apologetic, according to the Scarsdale blog:

‘The following morning the parents of the Bat Mitzvah girl sent an email out to the parents of the boys on the bus. They claimed that the “counselor” needed to address “a serious safety issue that occurred when a projectile object was thrown at the front of the bus. … given the late hour and the slick roads, … the safety of the children could be compromised.”

However, they failed to apologize for the man’s inappropriate behavior saying only, “we are very sorry if any of your children were upset by what happened.”’

With Mother’s day rapidly approaching, we wanted to take a moment to remind all mothers to take a moment and treat themselves.  Go get a massage, or a manicure and pedicure!  Turn off you cellphone for two hours and go to the movies by yourself!  Go buy that purse you’ve been dying to have!  Too often we do not take the time to relax and breathe – all by ourselves.

Here are some fun ways to set the relaxation in motion.  Just remember, Mitzvah Moms need some attention, too!

I think we can all remember reading The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald in high school or in college.  I am sure we remember the handsome and suave characterization of Jay Gatsby, the elusive and beautiful Daisy Buchanan.  The glitz!  The glamour!  The fabulous fashion!  Just when you thought the roaring 20′s were a thing of the past, Baz Luhrmann’s remake of The Great Gatsby has the era roaring right back.  The young Carey Mulligan plays Daisy Buchnan, and the costume department spared no expense in showing how beautiful the flapper fashion was and still is.  Starting with the beautiful photography from Vanity Fair’s Gatsby showcase, we think that a Gatsby inspired Mitzvah would be something people would love.  Not only does it work for a Bat Mitzvah, but the boys do not have to be left out either!  Playing Jay Gatsby, Leonardo DiCaprio’s wardrobe is just as stunning as Carey Mulligan’s.  There are so many fresh ideas and as you can see, the 1920′s never truly dies.  From Gossip Girl to a fashion spread featuring Taylor Swift, flapper fashion has been relevant for years.  With Baz Luhrmann’s Gatsby remake, we can only imagine the glitz and glamour of the 1920′s will become a pop culture staple – one that keeps roaring back in for years to come.

Why not take advantage and plan a very cool 1920′s themed Mitzvah?

Our first Mitzvah boot camp was more than a success!  Catered by David Ellis Catering, the food was absolutely delicious.  We all got to munch on these delicious treats while our experts ran through some Mitzvah details.

So what did the experts tell us?

• We concluded that a five-hour mitzvah is too long – by the end of the party, most kids are exhausted.  Sneak in breaks so that the party continues to flow and kids aren’t falling asleep!

• We know everyone loves montages and the candle lighting, but we feel as if these disrupt the flow of the party.  Pick one or do none!  Talk to the people you hire, ask them for ideas on making the candle lighting or montage interesting and fun.

• If a montage is done properly, it works.  Make sure people are eating as it should be a part of the background.

• Know your child.  What do they like?  Are they introverts or extroverts?  What do they want?

• Budgets play a big role in what you do and what you don’t do – you really need to have a number; it helps the vendors give you what you want.  Don’t try to have something if you really can’t afford it.

• Get comparative bids, but be aware that sometimes it’s more than just a price comparison – it should be a quality comparison.
