m.studio events: Party Concierge Extraordinaire!

We schmoozed with Michelle Farber of m.studio events. She is absolutely amazing! She knows how to bring a party to life like no other. Luckily for us, she gave some insight into what goes on BTS and how to plan for a perfect party.

1. OK! WHAT’S THE PROCESS?
Once we are hired we assess what has already been done. We’re most successful with a clean slate so we can work together with you on your vision. Often times, clients come to us after they’ve booked a venue and are ready to start planning. At m.studio events, we assist with venue selection, introduction to entertainment companies, photographers etc. We work very hard  to find a team that best fits your needs (as well as personality, budget etc). The team is hand picked! That’s just one perk of hiring a Party Concierge. We brand a party. Imagine the best concierge at your favorite hotel. We can make any and all requests happen.
2. HOW DOES A CLIENT FIND YOU?
Very simply…word of mouth and repeat business! Once a client reaches out, we set up a phone consultation and then send over a comprehensive proposal catered to your event. We then schedule a meeting with the parents.  After we are hired, the fun part starts. We LOVE to meet with the mitzvah kid. Often times, they give us a tour of their room – a great peek inside their minds for inspiration. The entire party must be crafted for the child, rather than just picking a random theme that anyone can use. What makes a skiing themed party special…turn it into glam skiing, add some glitter and sparkle and it will suddenly becomes about a very special little girl with a passion for skiing.

3. HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD THE FAMILY START PLANNING? AND THEN WHAT?
Most often, we get calls when parents get their dates (roughly two years out) or when they are ready to plan (about a year in advance). Depending on what we have to do determines how fast we move. Out of town guests? Let’s get a room block set up. Transportation needed? Let’s lock it in! I cross all of my T’s and dot all of my I’s! The party starts to build vendor by vendor in our system until all decisions are made. We’re really good at master timelines and lists. We keep you on track and everything moving.

4. NAME THREE MUST HAVES TO TAKE YOUR MITZVAH TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
1. Live Entertainment is so important! When you add a live element, it elevates the party for everyone!
2. Social Media – find a way to connect the party to the internet. Whether it’s hashtags or a photo booth, make sure everyone is on the same page to best showcase your party. This is the language that the 13 year olds speak…Snap Chat seems to be their bible!
3. Dance floor trends are always evolving. Right now, the more giveaways the better. Branded swag is hot hot hot! We come up with innovative ways to disperse swag throughout the party.
5. WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE DURING COCKTAIL HOUR?
I’m usually too distracted to eat or drink because I look at every single detail of the party. I love looking at all of the details and seeing fun ways in which food is served.
6. WHAT ARE SOME HOT COLORS FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR?
Rose gold, mixed metals, and even a touch of black. There will always be my gorgeous pink parties that just bring a certain glow and happiness to any room.

7. WE LOVE HOW M.STUDIO EVENTS EMBRACES 360 DEGREE DECOR. EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK THERE’S SOMETHING NEW! WHAT’S THE THOUGHT PROCESS BEHIND THAT?
I don’t like to over design or oversell. It’s fun that guests can go on a scavenger hunt throughout the party… what will they see next?

8. OWN UP! WHAT’S THE FUNNIEST HICCUP YOU’VE ENCOUNTERED?

Shockingly, it was at my own daughter’s mitzvah! We painstakingly designed a handmade invitation for our daughter. Her birthday was Sunday and her party was Saturday night, so we did a Saturday Night Birthday Bash theme. The party was to end at 1a with a confetti drop at midnight. The dates/times got confusing, and we accidentally put Sunday on our invitation! We quickly rebounded with a follow up postcard the next day that said “oops!” To own up to it, we incorporated the “oops” into the party with the saying on sweatshirts, napkins etc. To this day, our guests asked if our “oops” was intentional.

Mistakes will happen, but it’s NYC! We can always fix it.

 oops

9. AT THE END OF AN EVENT I ______

I love to sit with the family and relive it! We pack everyone up (although nobody ever wants to leave). My feet are usually on fire, so shoes come off. It takes a long time for me to physically get into bed because I’m just so excited. The next day we have a debriefing with the family. I happily share some pics and videos that I had taken throughout the night so they can relive a piece of the party until the photographer’s pictures arrive.
10. IF YOU COULD REDO YOUR MITZVAH, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
My kids parties (2006, 2010) were much more interesting than mine! Adamcrombie to this day gets so many requests, questions and comments. I’m most proud of these two parties.

11. WHAT ELSE CAN WE KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I’m fortunate to work with my husband, Scott. There’s something to say for someone who has your back and you can be yourself. I never in a million years thought it was something I could do, he’s so in sync with me (and calm and rational) and I’m spontaneous. I get to do what I love! it’s such an awesome feeling to be an active participant in providing ideas to make these parties (and visions) come to life.
